Newbies Surujpal Posted June 16, 2004 Newbies Posted June 16, 2004 Hi All, I use Filemaker v6 Pro to do some development and now need to create an executable to give to my clients. Now, I understand that I need Developer to be able to do this. My question is should I just get v6 Developer or should I buy v7 Developer? What are the issues with getting v7? Is it compatible with v6? Have the filetypes changed from v6 to v7 such that v6 is unable to open v7 files? Your help is appreciated.
Vaughan Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 The file format has changed with FMP 7, so you'll need to convert your FMP 6 files to work with FMP 7, and they won't be backwards compatible (FMP 7 files cannot be converted or saved back to FMP 6 format). You'll have to decide whether to keep developing the v6 solution or convert it to FMP 7.
SteveB Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Be aware that your clients will not be able to run if they use Win 98 or earlier. There are a number of threads that discuss this. Steve
QuinTech Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 I'd recommend that you move up to version 7. The Filemaker program has changed so radically with v7 that it's almost like a new application. So before you put money into the old version, you should probably convert to 7 and start from there so that your solutions can more easily "grow up" with the application. Jerry
