i have a drop down list that wants to stay open even after you make a selection. ussually they close after i make my selection, this one just wants to hangout there, until i click somewhere else.

Is it the only field accessible on the layout? Put another field on the layout, make the fill and text transparent based on the layout's background color, set it to 1 by 1 pixels, and see if that helps.
