I am trying to create a PDF library to store all my PDF files. I am unable to import my files in FM 7. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have tried several forums but to no avail. Thankyou

Hi will88,

I think that you can place the files into a container in any format that you would like. You can also extract the files from the database using the export field contents command under the edit menu while the container field is highlighted. You may create any other search criteria in other fields as you see fit. I believe that FM7 doesn't really care what file format you place into the container.

No genius here.

But you dont' use the "Import Records" from the File menu to insert your PDF or any other files.

You have to create your database with several fields, the main one being a CONTAINER type field, the rest being fields you use to enter file description information (eg Name, description, date, etc).

You then can right click on the container field and choose "Insert File" or script it using the same command.

To get the file out, you can right click on the field and choose "Export Field Contents" or script it as well. Only thing is that the exported file will be missing the suffix (ie *.pdf) so you'll have to add it manually to the file name when exported. This has been an issue and much discussion here that I haven't followed. I beleive others have offered a solution to this exporting file issue without a file type. Try a search, I'm sure you'll find some answers.
