I couldn't find the search function tonight to search these forums to see if this has already be discussed and covered in another forum topic discussion here (did the search hyperlink get moved?) but anyway....

I have some files that back in the FM 5.5 and 6 days used to use an Auto-Entered value created via a the Status(CurrentPortalRow) function to create a Display Order value for records created within a portal. The portal was programed to sort the records within it based on that Display Order value. I then had button with scripts that would then change the Display Order value to move the portal records up or down in that portal display if the user wanted to.

The problem and roadblock I now face is that in FM7 a field that has been set to Auto-Enter a value in that Display Order field doesn't Auto-Enter that initial value anymore. Nothing happens in the Display Order field when the record is created within a portal. The field remains empty. The calculation was changed to field Get (PortalRowNumber) when the files were converted but Get (PortalRowNumber) doesn't seem to work for an Auto-Entered calculated value anymore.

Any suggestions as to what I might do as an alternative or work-around?

And if this is a bug what's the best way to go about telling FMI about it?

Well I did devise a work-around. Since the Display Order value is never actually seen by the user I programmed the field to Auto-Enter a serial number which always gives it a such a high value number that it always appears at the bottom of the list of portal records. Then when the Move Up button script is clicked it sets (via setField) the Display Order value to the Get (PortalRowNumber) value and I go on from there with the rest of the scripting I used to use to change the portal records displaying order.

Still I am wondering what is the best way to advise (aka complain) to FMI about something like that?
