papacubby Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 Using FMP6 WIn XP Is there an easy calulation that will take a field that contains a persons full name (George Bush) and pull the first word out (GEORGE). Then I could do the same with the last word (BUSH)? Thus splitting the full name? When I am done I would have 3 fields: FULL NAME, FIRST NAME, LAST NAME
Lee Smith Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 YourFull Name Field Left Word(YouFullNameField, 1) Right Word(YourFullNameField, 1) Be aware that if the Name is George Von Bush, the Von will not be included.
QuinTech Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 ... and if you do want "Von Bush" to appear in the LastName field, you would use the calculation: MiddleWords ( YourFullNameField , 2 , 64000 ) But bear in mind, this could give you a result like FirstName = George LastName = W. Bush Jerry
Lee Smith Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 Okay Jerry, You forced me to bring out my heavy artillery. Hi papacubby, Take a look at this recent thread. Ignore the reference to [color:"blue"] mktedge.com site , I think it has evolved into something else. But I did attach their file further down in the thread. http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=94866 Lee
