My copy of Fm Server has stopped creating backups of the databases to the backup directory. It was working up until about a month ago. I have a script that should perform the backup every morning. I have tried recreating the script, restarting the server, making the directories world readable/writable, and restarting the machine. Nothing has worked.

My copy of Filemaker Server is started up automatically by FM Start, which I haven't quite figured out how to stop. Nevertheless, FM Start does start FM server up when the machine is rebooted.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Same problem here. Called FMP, they said it sounded like a permissions issue with OSX. Completed a fresh install of everything, moved my DBs over and voila, the same ******* thing. The auto start up was something that was vexxing me as well. If you go to /Library/StartupItems/ there are 2+? folders with FMP stuff, I just deleted them so it wouldn't auto start on machine restart. Another thing is that I cannot use the FMS admin program from a remote machine, keep getting "Could not connect to FileMaker Server" errors.

FMS 7 is much better, but leaves many questions unanswered.

This past week, this started working again. I removed a directory in my live database area. I had removed the directory so I can't look at it to see the permissions. So, the problem was either, it does not like multiple folders in there, or, the permissions on that directory were off. I'm pretty sure I checked the permissions on all the directories back in July.

Make sure you have the latest version of FM server 5.5, earlier versions had problems backing up large databases to volumes other than the start up volume. Possibly as your database grew you ran into this problem. I believe the latest version had this solved.
