July 20, 200421 yr Its been a while since this was visited. I still have problems with opener files. Does anyone have one that is simple and works? My users are not too happy with all the navigation required to open their files on the network. Ivan
July 20, 200421 yr What navigation is involved? They only need double-click the opener file on their desktop (or MyDesk, etc.) and it will do all the navigating for them. The on open script should be simple: Open [somefile.FP5 (someip)] Close [ ] where somefile is the main db in your solution and someip is either the server's ip address or the host's ip for solutions on a dedicated machine. Which part seems to be your problem?
July 20, 200421 yr Author All of it!!! I get this message when I click on the file with the script. "cssinv.fp7" is currently in use and could not be opened. If the file is shared, you can use the open remote command to open the file on the network. (If you've opened the file before, check the open recent menu.)
July 20, 200421 yr You shouldn't be clicking on the file. You should be clicking on the file name after selecting Remote and selecting the host, so that all multi-user files on that machine are visible, if they have been set to be so in the Sharing options.
July 20, 200421 yr Author Yes, that is exactly what we do. Seems like the long way to get to Grandma's house. That is why I would like an openeer file to bypass all the navigation. Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated. sometimes I think my head is going to explode with FM. Much ground has been covered in the last 9 months. btw FileMaker support says it can't be done. Ivan
July 20, 200421 yr Let me clarify, that is what YOU should be doing. And once you do it one time on your opener file, it should be set permanently so that no one else ever needs to.

July 21, 200421 yr http://www.fmdeveloper.com/php/tips_and_tricks.php Link didn't work...Correct one above
July 21, 200421 yr Ivan -- it sounds like the FMP files are stored on a shared network volume, not a FileMaker Host computer. Opener files only work with hosted files, and FMP databases should never be shared through a network volume.
