a notification when you change something?

Hello everybody,

I have a problem. I want to have a message for the users as soon as tey have changed somethig in the databse. so i want them to be alert of that change and befor to change something they accept that they want to change the information of a field.

Anybody an idea?

You can find field validation where you define the fields. Highlight the field, select options and you're in.

If you're using 7, on the layout setup, if you uncheck save records automatically, it will prompt the user to save changes or cancel. It's cool because it'll roll back the changes. But, it won't tell which field was changed, just that the record has been changed.

i'm using filemaker 6 Adam ..unfortunately i can't use your option...How about to make a layout with readonly fields and then make a button to go to the same layout with the right of modification?

But it's too much work. I couldn't use field validation though...

Use two identical layouts - one accessible only by navigation. It isn't secure, but if the point is to not accidently change data, then it'll work fine. You can use the "editable" layout for searching too.

BTW, you can use Field Validation in FM6.
