Symbols in Filemaker for Windows

Featured Replies

I am developing a solution for a client who wants to use font symbols in a drop down menu from a value list for Mac and Windows. The symbol desired is a check mark which works great on the Mac system but I can't find an equivalent on Windows. I can't figure out how to get around this on the Windows machine (there doesn't seem to be a suitable substitution). I thought about using a calculation with a global of an image of a check mark but I would have to create over 300 calculation fields and scripts so that doesn't seem like a good option unless there's a better way to do it. Any suggestions?

Here's an addendum to my earlier post:

I thought about the wingding style but here's the problem. Teachers need to select from a popup value list that has these three symbols (+ - and "checkmark"). I can get the plus and minus signs to appear with times and I can get the checkmark to appear with wingding. I thought about having teachers simply copy and paste the checkmark into the field when needed, unfortunately, the field is formatted with times font and so when they paste in the checkmark, it appears as a "u" since that is the equivelant for the keystroke in times. And, as far as I can tell, wingding doesn't have plus, minus, and "circle with line though it" symbols. Any more suggestions?

Hi, cfahle. Have you investigated creating your own font? I know there are several downloadable font creators out there, and if you only want to make four characters, you could probably find a freeware version easily enough. Look at download.com or something to see if you can find one.
