Server keeps closing my file

Featured Replies

I'm running FMServer 7.0 in OS 10. I'm trying to connect to a hosted database using Windows XP. Everything has been working fine until today. (Usual story, eh?)

Anyway, each time I connect to it I get

"File has been forcefully disconnected by the host. All affected windows will be closed."

When I check the server, sure enough the database is closed, so I reopen it and it closes each time I try to connect.

Any ideas?

Never mind. Turns out the file was damaged. Now if only I could recover the blasted thing. This is the first time in 7 years that I haven't been able to successfully recover a filemaker file. B)-(

I am having the same problem with a file I am serving on FM Server 7, but this problem only happens to me when I try to input images over the network. If I open the database through FM Pro without going through Server, I have no problems adding images. I have tried recovering the file, but every time I do that, FM 7 crashes on me and recovery quits. Have you been able to recover your files?

Thanks.

Sebastian

In response to sencina: If you are able to add images to the database when opened with FMP but not FMS, check the permissions on the file you are hosting, fmsadmin needs to have read and write priv's.

Recovered files should never be used again, IMHO. They could have corruption, as you are currently experiencing. You should use a backed up file prior to your problems and the import the data from the "recovered" file.
