LaRetta Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I have established my new FM7 solution (BUSINESS) on my home system. This will be network (not Server yet) for 5 people. An OPENER file (Vaughan's) calls a subscript external to this file. Network sharing is on, all Users. OPENER has default password. Script in BUSINESS runs SecureFM. This has been working fine. I have been plagued for months with random "FileMaker cannot share files because another User is already sharing files using FileMaker Pro on this computer." The first time it randomly appeared, I was breaking apart Business Tracker. It kept reappearing for weeks after I trashed BT. And now ... it is back. I dump temps, reboot, open either OPENER or BUSINESS and get the error. I turn Sharing off ... everything to 'No' and 'No Users' and repeat the above. I still get the message. I try to reactivate the network sharing and it says it won't let me because someone is already sharing them - but when viewing network sharing, it shows 0 users sharing the file. Does anyone have any ideas on resolving this? The message appears if I open BUSINESS directly; and it appears twice when I use OPENER. It is driving me nuts! And I also don't want it plaguing our Users - if I ever get this solution finished, that is. LaRetta
RalphL Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Don't use OS Sharing. FileMaker has its own sharing. You have to open FMP on the host machine. Other users can then use the opener file to log on. I suggest that you have a machine deicated to serve as the host and not do anything else. The sooner you get FMS the better.
LaRetta Posted July 29, 2004 Author Posted July 29, 2004 The sooner you get FMS the better. Boy, you got that right, Ralph! Scheduled purchased 45 days. This is a temp network so they can normalize their combined Act databases. Well, it seems my *testing* caused my own problem. I, errr, was testing Opener on the Host and BUSINESS wasn't open. Thanks so much! Hmmm, shortcut on host desktop to open Host directly, right? Never open as Guest (via Opener) on Host. I think I missed that piece. I had put a shortcut to Opener on my desktop while I was working ... thinking that is how I should open my design. LaRetta
