Portal's fields disappear if . . .

I created a large, light-gray box and placed it at the back of the body's layout underneath transparent fields merely for aesthetics . When I place a portal over this box none of the fields show any data. Fields outside the portal and over the box revea their data.

I moved the field in the portal front-most and made sure that it was solid (filled, I used "white" in my scenario) as well as made sure the portal was solid. Nothing

If I make the portal tranparent, the first record in the portal reveals itself, but no others

Maybe I need to figure out better ways to make a "nice-looking" layout
