Hello.

I installed FM7 Server on my W2K Server (SP4) yesterday and since this morning I have been unable to connect to my FM7 Server using the local server admin mmc plugin. I was able to yesterday but now when you click 'Connect' it just sits there for a while and nothing happens, no error message or anything. I cannot connect via a remote machine as I get the 'not setup for remote admin' message.

I have tried rebooting and verified that both services are running, there is no firewall on the machine and nothing has been installed on the m/c since yesterday.

If there is a way of enabling remote admin with a registry/text file edit then I could live with it but I cannot seem to find anything.

Thanks

phil

Just ran into the same problem on Windows Server 2003 again. After the first time I reinstalled Server 7 and was then able to connect to the server but it failed again two days ago. I'm now looking for a solution and considering reinstalling Server 7 again. Anybody have some troubleshooting ideas for this problem?

I am having the same issue. Worked fine when I went home friday night but now has same symptoms as you have.

I am using the trial version but that shouldn't matter...

Have you tried reinstalling Server on your machines?

I'm using the full version from the FileMaker installation CD.Looks like this is is a problem common to all versions.

Have you uninstlled or otherwise disabled Server 5.5 on the machine running Server 7?

Reinstalling the server worked. But I cannot see going to Server 7 with this kind of fatal flaw. I need a reliable server and that means not having to reinstall all the time.

Having same problem. FMPRO Srvr 7v2 worked fine on a W2003 server for 4 days. Could connect to the local server via the admin tool. Then, boom. It was like we lost the network connection (which we didn't.) Tried to log back on using the Srvr Admin tool and could no. It just sits there. Re-installing fixes the problem for 2 or 3 days... then, same thing. This is a Dell Server 66xx series, top of the line, fresh from the factory, nothing on it but FMPRO Srv7v2, right out of the box.... no users, nothing just a dedicated machine for our systems. Next to the big dell is a G4 runing 10.3.4. FMPRO Server works fine on there, no blips. Solid.... of course, the machine is a snail, but it at least I can connect via the G4 to the Server Admin (running on the same machine) and remotely from other machines to the G4. The big Dell however, will not accept a remote user when it gets in that state. The "service" is running fine (you can access the files that are hosted) but no admin. which of course is super sketchy b/c you can't run back ups, tune it, etc. All the more reason I should have went with the Mac 64bit Server and 1T storage. Will probably just get it anyway as we MUST have a solid system to grow with. (In all fairness, was running FMPRO 5.5v Srvr and it was solid on an older Dell, but the new rev. is unstable it seems. I'm sure there is a service pack or somthing that will fix the problem. Thank goodness for the Apple archt.

I'm sure architecture differences are at play but only in respect to how FileMaker has coded the product. Want to sell to Windows users? Making the darn thing work reliably would be a reasonable starting point.

My other big issue is the server simply stopping with an error in the event log that says the license for the trial version has expired. But I have only been running it for less than a week. Starting up the server gets things working again just fine (for a while)

On this subject, does anyone know whether FM Server 7 is officially supported on Win 2000 Pro?

I have just encountered this same error with Filemaker Server 7 running under Mac OS X 10.3.5 on a PowerMac G4. I could connect to the server using the Admin tool for the past week. When I tried to connect this morning I keep getting the message unable to connect to server. WTF? I've double and triple checked my password etc. There is nothing else running on this box. This is a fatal flaw in Server 7.

Other than reinstalling does anybody have any suggestion for logging into the machine?

Boy am I embarrassed! Before reinstalling Server 7 I noticed that the NumLock key was selected. I turned it off and was then able to log into Server 7. Oh well that's what I get for using a PC keyboard with a Mac computer. So I take back my post about this being a fatal flaw in Server 7 on Mac OS X. Embarrasing!

I have talked with FMI about this problem and awaiting a response.

Hopefully they will have some answers.

Anthony

Did you ever hear back from FMI? What did they say?

"Of course, its screwed up, a computer is involved!"

I ran into the problem. I called FMI & they said I selected a wrong option and to reinstall. I reinstalled FM Server 7 and selected the options they suggested. Same thing, I got locked out again! They said in the directory tab to select windows authentication and then select Log on as current user. They said this is where I messed up the first time but I am pretty sure that I selected this to start with. This option did not make a difference.

I called them back and they said this is a tricky thing to get working. They had me uninstall again & do a custom reinstall. Same result. So after being on the phone with them for an hour, they finally passed me onto 2nd tier support. 2nd tier had nothing else either. They have now escalated me to the engineers. I should have an answer late next week. I will post what I find out.

If you install Server 7, then manually start the services instead of restarting, there are times it will prevent you from connect with the Admin Tool.

So when you install Server 7, immediately reboot before doing anything, and that should work fine.

I did reboot right after installing FM Server 7 and then set it up to use external authentication. If I restart the service again after making the changes, it locks me out. I have yet to hear anything back from FM.

The errors you get is all about the date and time of the computer, because FMS is smart and when whe use the trial version it places the servi

Sometime you manually have to start the service in the services menu before you can connect. But maybe that is just the way my install behaves. After you start te services and configure the administration setting you can connect to the server shut it down and restart it from a remote machine.
