Assign ID to a Record

Beginner Here.

Basically I need to create a script which will assign a unique ID number to 40,000 existing records.

You don't need a script. Use FileMaker's built in Replace.

Put your cursor in the ID Number field, and then go to the Menu > Records > Replace.

In the dialog box that comes up, choose the second Radio Button, fill in the starting number (it is already defaulting to increase each record number by one). Hit Replace and your records will be updated.
