Jump to related record when chosen from ValueList?

Featured Replies

I want the action of making a value list choice to trigger a "show related record." The value list only shows "Jobs" records related to the "Client." From the client layout, I would like jump to the related record, and show the desired job on the Jobs layout.

Is it possible in FM7?

Without a field modification script trigger you can't do it by directly choosing the job. One way would be to choose the job and then click a button next to the field which would call the go to related record script.

Although my preferred method is to use a portal showing the related jobs and place a button in the portal that takes me to the jobs layout.

Thanks! I'll try it.

Can the portal be a pop up, or must it be a scrolling text field?

Would the button be in the portal, or outside?

The portal is a scrolling list, and you place the fields and the button on the top portal row in layout mode. The button will repeat for every related record. If you're not using the portal for data entry, you can make an invisible button that covers the whole row so you can click anywhere.
