Logixx Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Hi. Never been a problem to enter a range for a query. Now I come across a solution where I should enter such a range AS DATA in browse (eg valid between the ages 0 and 12). In the past I used to work around this with 2 fields (begin and end of range) and I wondered if someone had tried something else? Range doesnt seem to work in browse. BTW, any idea to enter the data 'infinite'?? and thus (combining both questions) how to enter something like 'valid between age 50 and death?' Regards to every reader.
RalphL Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 You can set a range in the validation dialog or use a calculation in the validation dialog.
Logixx Posted August 11, 2004 Author Posted August 11, 2004 I didnt make myself clear. It is not a question of validation. The DATA must be kind of 'valid between age 0 and 12'. I'd like to set it '0
ESpringer Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I'm confused! You say it's not about validation, but it seems it's just that you want the validation parameters to come from user-accessible fields. I gather you used to use a two-field approach with a validation calc for age (say) that made reference to those two fields (and one or both of them being blank could amount to admitting no limit in the up and/or down direction). So, what was the problem with that approach? (Are you using the word "valid" in a non-FM-technical way, as in... This membership is valid for xxx years?)

This membership is valid for xxx years?) You have it. The 'validation' is part of the data of a record. 'Valid' means: 'the insurance will pay!' It is involved in a multi criteria relationship, through which data show up depending on the range: one record for 0-12 yo, one record for > 50 yo etc. My other question was: how do I enter the value 'infinite' (other than leaving blank, just to have a user friendly interface)?
