Which uses less memory, global or num/txt fields?

Just curious. After calculations are completed, I dont' clear the "used" number fields (maybe I should). If I use a global fields they reset themselves for each calculation, obviously. I'm guessing using global fields uses "less" memory as you only enter a value once and each record has a "tag" that accesses that value. Am I correct?
