breicher Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 For some reason if you just point a browser to my FM6 server it loads quickly. http://helpdesk.chesaningschools.net but if I point it to a CDML page it loads very slowly. http://helpdesk.chesaningschools.net/FMP...0View&-view What might I have wrong? The password to display the database is "support" Thanks, Brad
Jeff Spall Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Hi, what you are displaying doesn't look like a lot of work for FMPro. This could be a server or database issue. For databases, I try to make sure that everything is indexed, that the layouts I use are as simple as possible and that there are no big on-the-fly unstored calculations. Having said that, this one: http://adserve.william-reed.net does a nasty lot of "today" calculations to build that left-side list (sorry guys, too lazy to build it properly), some inlines from another db to make the middle and a whole bunch of "Ifs" (to see if you-re logged in). This is running OS X on an oldish G4 that does a number of other things as well, like file serve, and it's about the performance I normally get. Which server are you using? My favourite is Apache on one of the unix flavours (Linux, OS X) with the WSC. Are the databses ever used by connected Filemaker clients for admin? Also, could a proxy server be involved?
Garry Claridge Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Brad, Check the "Permissions" on your "Rooms.fp5" database. As the drop-downs are not loading. Something could be happening with the [FMP-InlineAction]. All the best. Garry P.S. Be aware that Instant Web Publishing and Custom Web Publishing cannot work at the same time.
breicher Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 Brad, Check the "Permissions" on your "Rooms.fp5" database. As the drop-downs are not loading. Something could be happening with the [FMP-InlineAction]. Yup, I forgot to give access to that file. All the best. Garry P.S. Be aware that Instant Web Publishing and Custom Web Publishing cannot work at the same time. How would you suggest I allow my technicians to access the full databases (I'm using Instant web publishing) and have users access an easy to use form (Custom Web Publishing)? Thanks, Brad
breicher Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 I've turned off instant web publishing and it still loads very slowly. http://helpdesk.chesaningschools.net/FMP...0View&-view It's running on a WinXP PC with a 1.2Ghz CPU and 256MB of ram. This box is doing nothing but hosting an FM database and is only being access via the web. Any ideas? Thanks, Brad
Vaughan Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 What patch level FMP 6 and web Companion? Are the database files on the local hard disk or a network volume?
breicher Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 I get the same response no matter where the database is stored. How do I check the patch levels? Thanks, Brad [color:"red"] Update: I'm running FileMaker Pro 6.0v4 Windows (English)
breicher Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 It also seems to load fine if I load http://helpdesk.chesaningschools.net/helpdesk.html but then the drop downs don't work. Help! Brad
Garry Claridge Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Brad, How is the speed when you do the query from your internal network, or on the same computer? Garry
breicher Posted August 20, 2004 Author Posted August 20, 2004 It takes a few seconds to load the database but then all queries and updates are very fast. Brad
