August 19, 200421 yr When opening one of my files with a script I get the hour glass for 20 seconds or more. When I try to edit a script in this bugged file, the same thing happens. Even when trying to create a new script in this file, I get a long delay before the new script window opens. Anyone encounter this problem or have an insight as to what gremlins I'm dealing with? Thanks. Gordon
August 19, 200421 yr Gordon I've had the same problem. What's happening here, I think, is that under version 7, as soon as a file or script is opened, Filemaker IMMEDIATELY checks ALL relationships, resulting in long (sometimes several minutes) delays, and repetitive messages to locate "missing" files. In versions 5 and 6, relationships were effectively hidden unless they were needed, either when a user switched to a layout containing related fields, or through the File>Define Relationships dialogue. If a relationship was "broken", then this caused no problems until that relationship was specifically needed. I've moaned about this in another forum, but no-one seems to support me! Why has this behaviour been altered?
August 19, 200421 yr Author Peter, That was my first take, too. So I went through each script to identify missing files and fields and either deleted the script step or filled in the missing information. But that still did not clear up my problem. I might have to rebuild the file from scratch. Before I do that, however, I plan to set up a new file and gradually import things and see at what point I experience problems.
August 29, 200421 yr You probably also should take a look at your File References, (found under "File" -> "Define..." -> "FileReferences...") FM7 seems particularly sensitive to their being File References that aren't found - then you end up waiting for a network timeout before it continues.
