August 19, 200421 yr Newbies I am a brand new user to filemaker, so try to bear with me . I'm using "Purchase Orders" as a template. I have one field named "Product Number" and one named "product description" I made these into pop up lists and have them linked to a table that i made in excel. So here's my question: How do i select a product number from my list and have it bring up the corresponding product description in the next field. I tried to set up a relationship thinking this would do the trick but had no such luck. Thanks
August 19, 200421 yr Hi, dustcloud, and welcome to FM Forums! What exactly do you mean by "linked to a table that i made in excel?" HTH, Jerry
August 25, 200421 yr Author Newbies I Imported an excel document into a newly created database (named "Prodinfo), then formed a relationship between my "Product Order" document (my original document) and "prodinfo". This made the info from the spread sheet show up in the drop list, but now i need them all to change at the same time. For example one list has ID NUMBERS one has DESCRIPTION, and one has SIZES. I need to be able to select a DESCRIPTION and have the cooresponding ID NUMER and SIZES be selected from each of there lists. I Hope this isn't to confusing, i don't really know alot of the verbage for this program yet.
August 25, 200421 yr If you have a layout tied to the Product Order table, add prodinfo::AnyField to this layout and it will show related data from the prodInfo table. This much, i gather, you know. I think what you're asking is how to have three fields native to Product Order auto-filled based on the contents of what is entered into another field. I'll tell you how to do it for one field: Let's say you want the user to enter DESCRIPTION and have ID NUMBER and SIZES filled in automatically. Create a relationship between Product Orders::DESCRIPTION and prodinfo 1::DESCRIPTION (the first table occurrence of prodinfo). Set Product Orders::ID NUMBER and Product Orders::SIZES to auto-enter, looked-up value, prodinfo 1::ID NUMBER or prodinfo 1::SIZES. Now, to do the same for the other fields, you will need two more table occurrences of prodinfo. I can't say for sure if this will work because i don't have FM7 to test it on, but if it can be done, this is the way to do it (without scripts, that is). Let me know, J
August 26, 200421 yr Author Newbies Thank you so much, it worked! This had led to another problem though. When i publish the DB to the web using "instant web publishing" the drop down list won't work! They just show a checkmark. Can you help me with this?
August 26, 200421 yr Sorry, no. I stay away from IWP questions, not because there's anything bad about it, just because i've never had need to use it. I'd suggest you make a separate post in the IWP section of the Forums. It's my experience that experts on this list gravitate towards the forum they have greatest facility with. Good luck, J
