Having trouble with calculation

I have a "status field" (with a value list) and a "status date change" field.

I'm trying to get the "date" field to paste the current date (m,d,yyyy) whenever the "status" field is changed. I don't want it to change if the record is modified in any other field.

Can't find a calculation that works.

What you are wanting to do is called Audit Trail or Field Modification tracking. If you were to do a search of this Forum, you would find plenty of reading material on it. Start Here.
