FM Server5.5 & FM Pro 6 on W2K Server

Featured Replies

HI Guys,

I've got an application which I've developed and I'm going to be hosting it on a Windows 2000 based server using FM Server 5.5. My solution is using a plugin called SyncDeK (www.worldsync.com) which synchronises the database with remote users. My problem is that internally (users on the lan) are only running Mac OS9 and SyncDeK works with Mac OSX or Windows 2000. Due to issues beyond my control, I cant expect my 10 users to upgrade to OS X, so my only option with the current rig is to run the SyncDeK service on the Server machine that will also be hosting my files, which means I need the FM Pro app installed and running at the same time as FM Server.

I'm interested in finding out from users that have hosted databases using FM Server 5.5 and also had the FM Pro application open on the same machine, what pitfalls they faced, and whether or not they got away with it.

Cheers

Jalz

If you are going to serve the same files to all of your users, you do not need that plug-in - it is only used to syncronize multiple instances of the same file (either standalone, desktop files or duplicate, remote servers) to a contiguous dataset.

Your users will already be seeing the same dataset hosted by your server.

As to your second question - no, you cannot run both FM Server and FM Pro on the same box simultaneously - you end up with a port conflict between the 2 programs.
