Merit Solutions Posted September 3, 2004 Posted September 3, 2004 The Documentation refers many times to the Administration Console for setting up Web Publishing but I can't find the console anywhere - Apache is running and configured correctly but where is the admin console? I've looked everywhere in the FM Server folder in HardDisk/Library just like it says but there is no Administrator Console!! HELP
Diver Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 The Console is actually accessed through your web browser. Enter the following with the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx replaced by the IP address of your web server where you installed the FM software: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fmi/config
Merit Solutions Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 I have done that but it just says "The requested URL fmi/config was not found on this server". I have installed the stuff correctly and restarted the Mac. I am using a router with NAT and my Mac Firewall on. Does anyone know if this would yield the above error and if so what ports would need opening on the router/OSX firewall. Also does Apache need to be running?
kbata Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Hidden in the instructions somewhere it says that Apache needs to be running before you install the web files. I uninstalled server advanced and turned on personal web sharing in the OS X System Prefs. I reinstalled and restarted and I was able to connect using http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fmi/config. Once you get there you can set up a name for your web server. Then click the button at the bottom that restarts the web server. Then go to the FM administration application and add in the same identifier. It seems that they rushed this out the door before all the bells and whistles were done. There is some terminal commands to turn things on and off. The best bet it to take your time and carefully read all the different PDF's. The only problem I have now is that my developer copy no longer will open files on our main server. So much fun!
Merit Solutions Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Aha!!! At last it works! For anyone else puzzled by all this - 1. As kbata said: ENSURE THAT PERSONAL WEB SHARING IS ON BEFORE INSTALLING THIS - IF NECESSARY UNINSTALL - USE ACTIVITY VIEWER TO QUIT FM SERVICES - RESTART MAC TOO! (This may also help kbata's server problem as FM Developer and Server can not host files simultaneously and certain invisible processes seem to hog the datafile). As long as Port 80 is open - it should work - otherwise open (forward) other ports detailed in these forums to overcome router/NAT/firewall issues 2. Using Safari type in: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fmi/config (to get the console up) 3. Type in User Name and PW (These are new and dont relate to OSX logins or FMP file pw) - whatever you do - DON"T FORGET THESE!!! 4. Create new Login/PW for the Instant Web Publishing controls 5. Look at the top of the window for FileMaker Server Tab - click on it and set up an Identifier and Passcode for the Server Admin Application to reference (more later) - Remember these too! 6. Click COMMIT & LOGOUT - If you do not logout and you later need to administer this you will need to restart your Mac!! : or you get errors like : "someone else is currently logged in" 7. Open FileMaker Server Admin (Hard Disk/Applications) 8. Click on the Configure button (and Clients Tab if necessary) and enter the Identifier and passcode from step 5 in the field list below the ODBC stuff. You'll need to click the Add button to the right to add an empty row. If successful you should see the full hosting address to the right of your passcode 9. Host your files from the FileMaker Server Admin application by placing them inside: Hard Disk/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases and use the admin app to open the files 10. Use your browser to view the hosted files: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fmi/iwp The documentation that comes with this is not clear at all and hopefully this helps those of you like me who can not read the minds of programmers 8,00 miles away Thanks to all who helped me
Ken Newell Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Thanks. I just found and was able to configure.
