jvickburg Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 I'm trying to debug an application written in Filemaker 5. Because this application uses 12 Filemaker databases, over 400 fields and almost 1000 scripts, I'm finding it difficult to find common references throughout the scripts. Is there a plug-in that I can use to export all of the scripts into a text editor in order to search for variables? Is there another way to search for variables, field names, etc. within fields or scripts? Lastly, is there a way to find out what script is populating a particular field if that field is only defined as a text field?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 You need the FileMaker Developer 5.5, or Analyzer from Waves in Motion, or Brushfire from Chaparral Software. They are designed for this type documentation. HTH Old Advance Man
SteveB Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 You need FM Developer 5.5, but by itself it is not very good as a tool...another case of a rather poor FMI implementation (with no documentation by the way and virtually useless output). Analyzer uses the DDR XML output and looks at the relationships one way, and Brushfire another way. Neither is a complete replacement for the other. Analyzer runs on Win 98 and Macs. Brushfire on Win XP and Macs.
pspafford Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 If you have Adobe Acrobat software (not just the free Reader - you'll need to shell out a few bucks), you can print all of the scripts to a pdf document. You can perform searches on the pdf. Paul
Steven H. Blackwell Posted January 26, 2002 Posted January 26, 2002 PrinttoPict will print the script oput to a text file. Old Advance Man
jvickburg Posted February 27, 2002 Author Posted February 27, 2002 Thank you all for the responses. I have actually purchased FileMaker Developer 5.5 and may in the future purchase Waves in Motion Analyzer. However, for now, the Developer has helped immensely. Thank you again! Jonathan
