It may be a commitment issue. Are you creating a new record and then cutting/pasting the text? If so, make sure you click out of the record to commit it first.

Commitment is not a problem. No record is being created before the search is performed. There are many records to be found in each search criteria entered.

I'm starting to think it has something to do with how shared files handle calculation fields.

I can set a stored text field to the calculated field and do lightening fast searches on the text field but the text field does not update automatically as the DB is updated. This is the work-around I'm using now but it's not so elegant as it once was.
