We recently purchased filemaker Donations with Pro 6. I'm trying to do a simple import into the contacts tab in Donations and I can't find matching file names or types for my data. Even names that seem like they would match I am unable to select! (they are gray). I've managed to get one data group into the new database but I have at least 10 more from F6 that I can't seem to match to their fields in Donations. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I missing something?

Hi dsa

I remember someone else wrote about this Solution not long ago. I don't remember what their problem was, and I can't find the link. Oh well!

Grayed out fields are Calculations. Calculations get their data from sources other than direct impute.

I don't see a Demo version available, and without purchasing it, I can only look at the Screen Shoots, which I did. I'm seeing a little pattern to the fields, but I would need to look at the import screen to verify it. Maybe you can capture a screen shot (2, 3, etc), and post it or them?

But before you go to that trouble, here are my questions to you:

Have you contacted customer Support about this Product?

Is there support?

Are the Files Password protected?

If so, what access level do you have?

Unlimited = Full access to all Menu items (no grayed out menu items) and Layouts (able to go into Browse, Find, Layout and Preview).

Or

Limited = Something less than Full.

Hi Lee

I contacted customer support and they were less than helpful. They said I would have to rename all the field names to get the import to work. Even that solution doesnt sound like it would hold water to me but needless to say it would take an unbelievable amount of time to reformat the entire system and then work out the bugs. There is no offical support for Donations itself.

I am the first to install the software and as far as I can tell it is not protected so I should have the highest access level. However show all records is grayed out. I can go into all layouts. I will post screen shots. I've started imputing the data by hand but I still have hope.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like we can work with it.

The "Show All Records" menu option will be grayed out, when all records are in the found set. wink.gif

I can probably pull the Screen Shots off of FM site, but you could take screen shots of the Fields in Define Fields level.

Or, if you know how to print Scripts and Field Definitions from the Print Menu to a "text" file (either text or PDF), Than that would also be a way to show them to me. There are Utilities printing to a Text file on Mac, and I know there is a utility or two in the Windows side that can do that too. There is also a PDF (shareware, or freeware) available, but I can't remember the names.

If you post any of this to the list, put them in a Folder, and then Zip the Folder

Too bad your software wants to take all of the credit. In other words, the ad covers half of the fields.

Okay, print the fields to PDF instead.

They didn't make as simple as they might have, but they did make their Filed Names pretty generic so you can match your data to them. Problem is, they have them scattered, and not all together, but we should be able to match them okay.

Give me the names of your existing filed names and the content type, and I'll try and help you match to theirs.

Hi dsa,

Did you get the private message I sent you yesterday?

If so, this is was what I meant by what I said.

In looking at today's enclosures, It would seem that there might be mulitpal files that you wanted imported into Donations? (6 filedef and makesh.def).

Maybe some additional information would be helpful.
