Slow Printing in OS X 10.3.5 & Filemaker Pro 6

I have a problem I can't resolve. We just installed our new database for POS in our retail store. it basically allows us to look up prices and generate an invoice.

The system runs on two computers. One, an iMac G4 800 (OS X Panther 10.3.5) serves the database and a second 9500 (OS 9.1) with G3 upgrade accesses the database by using "open Remote."

The problem: when I generate and print an invoice on the 9500 it prints to a Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS (over an ethernet connection), almost instantly. When I create an invoice on the iMac and print to the same printer via ethernet is takes forever almost 5 minutes. It takes too long that it is unreasonable for the customer to wait this long.

It is printing the same information. Is this an OS X panther problem? A filemaker pro 6 issue in OS X?

Anyone have any ideas?

A follow up. I erased the hard drive on the iMac and spent 8 hours reinstalling a clean system and all apps.

After doing a clean install of 10.3.5 I reinstalled FM Pro 6.0v4 before any of the other applications we use so it was basically a hard drive with the Mac OS and Filemaker Pro.. I still have the slow printing issue. I also did a test. On the 9500 if I printed to a postscript file (PS) the file is about 67K. When I print the same file on the iMac to a PS file it is 3.2mb.

So anyone have any ideas what is bloating the same file. The iMac has Quicktime 6.5.1 and all the latest Apple updates and security patches.

Can someone take a stab at this problem. I'm not having any luck with the developer of the database. I won't name them. But should they choose to do nothing I'll let you know who they are.
