hello out there is FMP land!

I have a question about relating tables etc... I'm trying to build a database with related drop down menus. Say I have a series of drop down menus, the first has software makers listed (Adobe, Microsoft, etc...), then I pick, say Adobe. I want the next drop down menu to reflect only the products that Adobe makes (or each other software maker). The user guide doesn't go into very good detail on how to do this, it talks about relating tables (even has a tutorial), but I can't figure out how to do this drop don menu thing.

Thanks in advance,

Justin

Jerry,

your example file helped tremendously. I still have a problem, though.

OK, so I have to software companies, Adobe, and Envi. Adobe makes three products, and Envi two. When I pick either company from the list, all 5 products from both companies show up on the next list.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks again for your help!

You want to put your products in a different table so that you can relate the selected company name to a company name in Products and have the value list pull only the products where the company names match.

If you look at the definition for the value list "Products," you will see that you have selected the option "Include all values." Change this to "Include Only Related Values Starting From Asset Management."

Also, i think you want the relationship from Asset Management to Asset Management 2 to be from CompanySelection to CompanyName. Currently, CompanySelection relates to CompanyProduct.
