Upgrade from FM5 to FM7 password problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We are running a DB with FM5 which has a password when you open the database. I've installed a trial version of FM7 and when I open a DB it upgrades it then asks for a username and password.

The original password no longer works, does anyone have an idea about this. We have never used a username before. confused.gif

Thanks

Matt

FM 7 uses a very different security system than older versions. Somewhere in the documentation on security and accounts and privileges FM discusses this in detail. They assign a default password and account, which if I recall correctly, are both the same as the password in the old version. If that doesn't work, make a copy of the FM 5 database, remove all the passwords, convert it to FM 7, and create new accounts and passwords. You will want to make some changes to take advantage of FM 7's new features anyway.

Thanks for that, I will copy and remove the passwords. Don't get much documentation with the downloaded trial version.

If you convert a .FP5 file to version 7 with passwords, it makes the User the same as the password. And Lynn is right - you would not want to keep it that way. You would need to come up with a whole new logon schema for your file.
