Does anyone have any experience hosting databases in Filemaker Server 7 Advanced and activating the ODBC features so that other programs can communicate with the server? I followed all the steps and still no ODBC client can connect to the server. If I run Filemaker Pro 7 instead of the Server, everyone can connect to it, so the problem is with Filemaker Server, not with the clients. Anyone have any tips?

I had a lot of troubles getting FMS7 Advanced working with ODBC too. I had to do several things to make it work.

One, which isn't in any of the documentation, is that when you copy the xDBC folder from off the CD into your FileMaker directory, all the files are read only. You have to change them all back to normal. This is assuming you are running on Windows. If that doesn't work, I have a few more tricks up my sleeve we can try.

Jason,

Do you have any other tips? I cannot connect to the FMS7 Advanced server. I checked and my files are no longer read only. When I try to test the connection I get the following error: TCP/IP Error, connection refused. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

John

I too had this problem. Few of things that may help.

Make sure that your xDBC.fmx file and the xDBC Support folder are the latest ones and make sure that you are logged on with administrator privs when you delete the old and put the new ones on.

Sounds silly, but make sure your hosted files are open.

Make sure that the files you are hosting don't have any spaces in the file names and if they do remember to add %20 in the space.

I too found that the files needed the read only boxes unchecked.

I know these may sound very simple but it did help me

Cheers
