Newbies David Morrison Posted October 7, 2004 Newbies Posted October 7, 2004 I want to be able to extract data from an Oracle database running on a Sun Unix machine. To date, I have been using SQLGrinder on Mac OSX to issue simple SQL commands, but I want to do more advanced things than SQLGrinder can do. I have been told that it is possible to access the database using ODBC and FileMaker. However, I am an ODBC novice. What I would like to do is to be able to access the data from Oracle, and use FileMaker (or something else) to produce reports for me. Neither the FileMaker nor the Apple support sites contain any useful information about ODBC that I can find -( Could someone confirm for me that what I want to do is possible, and if so, tell me how to set it up? Thanks David
transpower Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Sure it's possible. ODBC is not installed by default during the FM install, so you'll have to install manually from the CD. See the FM Help files for ODBC. Make sure your port number is correct. Set up your FM file to correspond to the Oracle file, field for field. Make sure you allow ODBC sharing for the FM file. Test communications.
Newbies David Morrison Posted October 8, 2004 Author Newbies Posted October 8, 2004 Eventually tracked down how to do it. I had chosen the wrong driver the first time -( Thanks David
