Backup accross appletalk network

Featured Replies

I previously had Filemaker 5.5 server with OS X, and it was scheduled to backup to a network server through appletalk. However, with Filemaker 7, I can't seem to get it to work. It keeps saying an invalid path. If I have a computer on my network called "eSnap", and a folder on eSnap called "Filemaker", how can I get the FM Server to backup to that folder?

Thanks, I really appreciate the help

I have a backup to a server working as follows. I use Filemaker to backup locally, then I have FM server start an Applescript that changes the name of the folder to include the date, and then copy it to the server. This can be done after each backup you perform to give you multiple copies of the database should you need to recreate from a previous time or day. Let me know if you'd like help with the applescript.

AppleTalk is deadly slow. You'd probably be better off doing the back up to a local folder and then use AppleScript to push the files to the remote location. At least that way, FM server does not have to suspend client activity until the files are copied to the network folder.

That is exactly what I am doing. Filemaker does the backup, Applescript pushes it to a server.
