I have FM Server running on Mac OS Server 10.2x directly connected to the internet through a network hub (not a router) and then through to the cable modem. 3 desktop Macs (OS 10.3x & 10.2x) are also directly connected through this same network hub. There are several laptops (Macs & pc's) that connect to the internet via a wireless router that is also connected to this same network hub. The wireless router's ip is assigned by DHCP. The 3 desktop Macs and the Server Mac all have static ip's assigned by our ISP and are in the same range. (The wireless router's ip is not in the range) All of the wireless computers can connect to the hosted files with no problem. The desktop computers cannot. When I choose Open Remote, the server name and IP show up in the left box (servers) but the files do not show up in the right box (files). Even if I type the network path (fmnet:/server ip/file_name) I get a message that the file is not available. Of course it is available - the laptops are all connected to it wirelessly. I have checked all computers, port 5003 is open. (I even tried turning off firewall all together and tht did not work either) I have been on the phone almost all day with FM tech support and this guy is stumped as well being as how he has no trouble connecting to my hosted file and who knows where he is. There has got to be some setting that neither he nor I am seeing and it feels like it has something to do with the local network. (At least I think the laptops are connecting to the Server via the internet - not the local network) Any suggestions? [email protected]

I finally got it figured out. I haven't seen anywhere in any fmp 7 documentation on the disc that you need to log out as a managed user and log in as admin before installing fmp 7, but you do. I had to drag the managed user's copy of fmp 7 to the trash. (it was in the managed user's apps folder) If FileMaker had made this an obvious requirement, I would have done it that way from the start. Instead, I have wasted 2 days of several employees were not able to work.
