FMS 5.5 and SQL Server best practices

Featured Replies

I know that FMS 5.5 and SQL Server should not be on the same machine under any circumstances. Can anyone point me to a page on FM's site that states this? I want to forward the link to a particularly, ummm... INTRANSIGENT client. I'm just having trouble finding the link.

I'm aware it's in the manual, but i am sure this client will tell me he can't find the manual and i don't want to send him another one.

TIA,

Jerry

Thanks, DysktrL (i always think of former Phillies outfielder Len Dysktra when i see your user name). I can't find the reference to SQL Server in here, though. In the manual, there is a specific reference to that application.

True, on this pdf there is a warning that FMS can be very I/O intensive. Combine that with the fact that SQL Server is also very I/O intensive, and any intelligent tech can come to the conclusion that they should not be installed on the same machine. Sometimes, though, we have to deal with techs who are not that intelligent, and this is one of those times.

I don't think a specific reference to SQL Server will help this guy much, i just want it for CYA purposes.

I would use the recommendation in the white paper that a machine hosting FM server should be a dedicated machine for that purpose only.

[Lenny is actually my cousin, would you believe]

I think that after searching and searching without finding the exact reference that is exactly what i'll have to do. Thanks for the help, Dykstrl.
