Basic find online

I want to do some basic finds on records. I have a button that puts the layout in find mode, then I enter some information in any field and hit enter on my keyboard - it just clears the text I just entered...it works in filemaker but not online (with IE or firefox)...what do I need to do?

Appreciate the help!
