fbugeja Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Is there another way of achieving the following, without using the Type-Ahead plug-in? I am a school teacher using FM7 to create a student database containing the names of 1000 students. I want to create the situation whereby when I type in a student
Ben Feingold Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 I ran into a similar situation. I wanted to have our behavior management form bring up a list of students. Here's what I did: 1. Create a database of student names (STUDENTS), homerooms, and what ever else you need to know. 2. Create a database where the data is going to be entered (SPORTS). 3. In SPORTS create a field for the students name (NAME). 4. Go to "Format>Field Format>" menu. a. Choose "Popup List" b. Choose "Define Value List..." from the next drop down. - Create a new value list, "Student Names" - Choose "Use Values From Field" - Specify the student name field from the STUDENTS database - Click "Okay" - Click "Okay" - Click "Done" c. Check both boxes at the bottom under "Behavior" d. Click "Okay" That should do it. Let me know how you fare.
fbugeja Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Thanks - will try your tip out ASAP (right in the middle of end-of-year exams at the moment!) then get back to you! Frank
fbugeja Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Ben, I tried following your suggestion but it became unstuck after "Specify the student name field from the STUDENTS database / OK / OK / Done / etc" . I notice that you are using FM5 . I am using FM7 & it seems there have been changes between the 2 versions. Your response mentions "Check both boxes at the bottom under "Behaviour" . This doesn't appear in FM7. Could you please tell me what labels appear next to these 2 checkboxes and I'll see if I can track them down in FM7. There is no Behaviour section in Format>Format Field Behaviour as well! Cheers! Frank
