Is there a way to implement "Go to Record/Request/Page" and have my own words instead of the "Specify Number" dialogue box with "Go to record x out of y"? I want it to say "Go to period x".

Use Go to Related Record instead. Use a global to hold the value for x and a relationship between the global and your period field. Then Go to Related Record [relationship], without Show only related selected will find the first related record in your found set without changing your found set. If a related record isn't in the found set, then it will change the found set.
