Hi, please help me with this: (dev 7)

i have 1 file with products, like

ford - focus

ford - contour

gmc - suburban

gmc - silverado

in other file or table (invoice) i want appear only i want, i have 2 popup list, manufacturer and model; if i choice ford manufacturer in my second popup list i want just the two models i have in ford for example. I has this in 6 version, but now i am really confuse.

vs. 7 isn't harder than prior versions ... only much enhanced. Are Ford & Focus in two different fields? If not, split them. Here's how to create your conditional VLs:

Create a second TO of your Products table (call it Model). Join Manufacturer to Manufacturer on equal between the tables. Create a Value List called Manufacturer (also known as Make in car dealership lingo). Use Values from Field and All Values and select your Products table.

Create another Value List called Model (Focus). Select 'Use Values From Field' and in top popup, select your Model TO. Select your Model field right below that. At the bottom, select 'Only Related Values' and select your Products table.

I have read through the topic of conditional pop up menus countless times and there are still a few questions I have about them. Can anyone help me out?

1) Do you need to have two tables in order to use setup a conditional menu?

2) Is it possible to use a value list that is based on the entries into a certain field as part of this conditional menu?3) Is it possible for the conditional menu to be located in a global field?

Thanks for your very helpful answer. I've been dealing with a similar situation.

I have a job ticket with two options as to what type job it is, type1 or type2.

I want to fill in company name from a pop-up list only showing relevant companies of either type1 or type2. Next I need to fill in contact name from a pop-up list based on the company previously selected.

Any pointers are much appreciated.

I am very new to Filemaker and have tried your suggestion but keep getting stuck. Sorry to ask but have you got more help for me.

As before I have say Ford (Manufacturer) then a sub list from this (Model) Taurus, Focus, contour, etc. I cannot seem to link these fields to work.

Do you have an example or small demo of how this works?
