Hi Everyone,

I've got two questions: the first relates to the font size changing depending on what percentage the files are looked at - am i going mad?! I've got a bit of type, size 9 when viewed at 100% and size 8 when viewed at 150% ... go figure! Anyway, onto the real question ...

The second question that i'd be glad of some help with, is that i'm trying to paste the contents of one text file in a portal, into another text file (by script) where it can be read better, ie the font is bigger and you can see more of it. When i paste in, the format of the portal type overrides that of the viewing field - something that i don't want to happen. There are lots of fields in the portal, so the type is small and the field isn't that large on screen - hence wanting to paste it into a bigger field at a greater type size. It's driving me mad.

Checked out the past posts, there was one vaguely on this subject, but it didn't help: i know that there are two tiers of formatting, but i can't figure out how to strip the portal format, and then have the type assume the formating that i've assigned to the "viewing" field.

Anythoughts gratefully recieved!

Thanks,

Slater

1. My quess is that at 100% 9 point type uses 9 pixels, at 150% 9 point would use 13.5 pixels, 8 point would use 12.

2. Paste without style should allow field format to conrol the formatting. Check box in the dialog box for the Paste script step.

Thanks Ralph,

I did have that box checked, and it didn't work - i then cleared and re-checked & re-booted, and it does work!

Kind of you to reply, thanks again,

In FP6, you can also use Set Field ( TextField , TextField ) to strip out any text formatting and only use the formatting defined in the layout (or Replace Field Contents). That ability is gone in FP7, although I hobbled together a custom function to do the job (see thread on Unformatting Text in the Tips forum).
