Value List based on field contents

I have this database which I want to use in several languages. A different language = a different layout, but this doesn't change the values of value lists of course.

So I have this example database (attached to the post) where when I select in

-> table Main field Language

the value

-> Dutch

the

-> table Main field Country

shows only the values of

-> table Translations field Dutch

which have

-> table Translations field Active Status

showing as

-> Active

I'm sure it is easy and right under my nose, but can't figure it out on my own.

Hi, zinneken. May i ask, before answering your question, what terms you used to search this site for an answer? This is a question that comes up frequently, and i would like to add as many keywords as possible to the posts that explain this method, so that future posters may find them more easily.

Thanks!

In addition to browsing the value lists forum and looking into any post which by close or by far seemed to maybe relate to my problem I searched specific for my problem (in forum value lists : translation, field content). Should I have looked elsewhere or does this post belong in another forum?

Thanks.

Thanks. I think you were just using less-than-optimal search terms; you'd have been better off searching for "dynamic value list." Such a search may have pointed you to these posts, which you may find helpful.

Maybe i'm misreading your question, but i think this is what you are after. Let us know if that's not it.

zinneken,

Your attached example did not help to clarify what you are trying to do. But I thought I'd show you what I would do (and have done) to make a database that can show different language versions of a field based on the selected language.

Basically each language version would just be records in a second table, related by the selected language.

I used a dynamic value list for the View selection, showing just the languages that had a translation entered.

See the attachment for my version.
