November 22, 200421 yr I'm running FIlemaker server 5.5v4 on Mac OS X Panther 10.3.5. After years of humming along fine, suddenly my server hosted files (aliases of which are all inside a sub-folder of the mail FM server app folder) will not open. When I click the "Start Server" button in the FM server app, it reports after a few moments that the server has started, but then no databases area available on the network - nor is the server available for administration like it usually is. The files open fine if I stop FM server and open the files locally using FM client on the server computer itself (no error messages about being closed incorrectly). I have FM server configured to allow hosting single user files, and "Allow Administration" is checked. Anyone know what I might check or look at to get this fixed?
November 22, 200421 yr What does the log say? Could another computer be running FMS on your network somewhere?
November 23, 200421 yr Something has changed. Have FMP files been added to the server recently, so the hosted file limit been now been exceeded? Check the file's permissions. It may also be corruption: get an old backup and see if it hosts corrently.
November 23, 200421 yr I second Vaughan's advice - check permissions. I discovered when updating a client's OSX Server 10.3 box, that the files I added did not open in FMS 5.5. They still had permissions set from my development machine. Once I changed the permissions to the Server box, all was well. -Stanley
December 10, 200421 yr Did you ever get an answer aside from the advice here? I'm having the same problem, except our server is still running Panther. I've opened the server FM and opened my database, but it doesn't appear when I go to "Open Remote" from any other computer. It did appear the first time I tried it a few days ago, but since then, following the same procedure, it hasn't worked. Also, I'm not a techie so be gentle. Thanks!
