Ok.....the answer is too simple?...right?...I certainly hope so.....I have 500 records....I initially search for all with a first name of "David"....it gives me 25 records.....how on Heavens earth do I get this number to show up (in its own field) on my layout?....Or any other "find records" search that I do?....I gotta be overlooking the obvious...right? The "Get" function shows me only total records in database....I just need the number of records in the newly found set. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Absolute, double (and triple) posting is frowned upon because it wastes our time. Now you have made Andy waste his time by posting the exact same solution you got from -Queue- yesterday.

If you need clarification on a question, ask for it. Please do not triple post.

Thank you Quin, I'll be more cognizant of policy and procedure in the forums and have my postings reflect same....Thank you for taking the time to apprise me. ..but, please explain.....by "double" posting, do you mean my action of posing the same question in a different forum?....an additional forum that may just catch the eye of some other member that may know the solution?....please relay how this is not correct...I certainly will not "double post" in the future but wish to understand the logic. Thank you.... and P.S. "yer a trip" eluded to the fact that you have a good sense of humor, nothing more. ;-)

You asked me not to "triple post"...have I?.....I don't believe so.

For some reason, it's not working for me....I have the field type as a global....and not sure about "unstored". I need it to show in a field on each record as I work through the database........ shocked.gif

BINGO

You can't store a global. It needs to be a regular field with the result of number.

You know, I have a feeling you are not following this - maybe because you posted it in two places and are receiving answers to both. That is[color:"red"] One of the [color:"red"] reason we [color:"red"]don't Double Post

The field is a calculation - Right?

The Calculation is - Get(FoundCount) - Right?

The Calculation Result is - Number - Right?

You have gone into the "Storage Options" for the Field and check the box Do Not Store calculation - Right?

You have a "Found Set" of less then all Records, but more than 1 - Right?

If all of your answers are Right, let us know.

Point taken, and believe me, no offense taken. As for why not to double post, Lee hit the nail on the head. What's more, sometimes two people will give completely different answers to the same question, and they may both be right. But if you mix up the two approaches, you will only become more confused.

You asked me not to "triple post"...have I?

one

two

three

I mention this not because i'm that interested in showing i'm right (though there is a little of that, i must admit), but more importantly, to show you that many people watch this list more closely than you might think.

Now get back to following Lee's, -Queue-'s, and Andy Gaunt's advice. smile.gif

People that read the Forums to answer questions, rather than ask them, usually use Search -> All Posts. This lists *all* recent posts, newest first, regardless of the forum they were posted in.

Viewed through this interface, multiple posts are very obvious. It's also very obvious when people multiple post but vary the subject and question slightly
