I don't know why it should be different with a kiosk, but on Windows it isn't a good idea to maximize the window. As soon as another file is opened, other windows become restored. It's best to zoom and leave it at that. If it doesn't zoom large enough, add invisible lines to the furthest rightmost and bottommost points on the applicable layout.
