Hi All,

Maybe I can find some help here? My company has Filemaker Server 5 and a number of users who access our shared database. It was installed long before I got here and no one seems to know how many people can have the database open at the same time. Is there any way I can find out?

If anyone knows please email me at [email protected].

Thanks,

Hilary

P.S. If anyone wants to do some pro-bono work for our fantastic non-profit arts organization let me know!!!

Hi Hilary, this would be controlled by a setting in your copy of Filemaker Server. Somewhere, problems in Start>Programs>Filemaer Server 5, you will have an application called Filemaker Server Console. If you don't find it there, search your system for fmserver.msc.

Run that and right-click on Filemaker Server. Then click on the Guests tab, and right there at the top you will see the maximum number of sim. connected guests.

A second limit on the number of users who can access the database will be the number of Filemaker Pro v5 or v6 installations you have with unique installation codes. Two client machines with the same installation code cannot access a database at the same time. If you're not sure of your installation codes, open FM on the client machine and select Help>About FileMaker Pro... and click the Info button. It will show you MOST of your installation code there, probably enough to determine if all of yours are unique.

There is an upper limit on the number of guests FMS 5 can accept. I can't remember it offhand, but i am guessing your cash-strapped arts organization does not have enough computers to even need to worry about this smile.gif .

HTH,

Jerry
