Hi all,

After reviewing the forums I was not able to find the way to put my portal in the footer part of my layot to work.

My layout is in list view, and the portal wont scroll down or up with out messing all its rows.

Does any body know a workaround to solve this Bug?

Is this a bug or FM does not consider headers and footers as places to have portals?

There is a portal display bug in FMP 7 that mangles up scrolling the last row. Though not completely fixed, make sure you update to FMP 7.0v3.

Thanks Vaughan!

I am already uptdated to 7.0v3 but unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

I hope they will fix it soon with 7.0v4 othewise I'll be in a big trouble.

If you have any other idea about this issue please tell me.

Thankyou again.

I've never used portals in a header or footer. Just curious: is there some special reason why you would like to do that?

Transpower:

My layouts are in list view and I use footers to display data asociated to that record selected in the body.

There are various reassons to do this, one is to be able to easily reorder those records displayed, other and the main one is to have a everthing in one layout. In businesstracker you have a layout to select records and another to show its details. Doing this you see both at the same time.

Unfortunately, portals do not work as they should and my model as it is right now wont work.

It is a big problem cos I have a lot of my application done in this way and I will have to re do everything using several portals in the body part assuming all the consecuences that using this method will imply... (a duplicated layout for each scriptable portal for example).

I am waiting for the update, but I have the new model almost finished just in case the v4 does not fix this issue or it does not arrive soon.

Thanks for your interest, I hope your curiosity is somehow satisfie despite of my bad english.

did you ever get this resolved? I have been sat at my desk working out how to print an invoice from the line item database (which allows me to sub-catagorise, etc) and I thought I would create a relationship based upon the invoice number which would allow me to display the client details for the header of an invoice and for the totals for the footer all in portals. I thought this would save on fields.

Can you use a portal in a header or footer when the body of text is in list mode?

Or, do you need some calc fields in the header and footer which replicate what the portal would say anyway - which seems pretty pointless when you could simply use a portal.

Thanks,

You don't need a portal to display the client details. Just use related fields. You might want to sub-summaries rather than the header and footer. Use the header for your company info, i.e., the company sending the invoice.

the line item table might only contain client name and invoice number along with all item details, how do i get it to display all of the information that i want on the invoice without forcing it to either lookup the data from the invoicing table or display it via a portal?

related fields? do you mean, simply use fields like

::invoicing:Address1

without actually sitting it on top of a portal? does this work?

Yes, that is what I mean and yes it does work. You need a portal when you are in the one and want to see the many. But you are in the many and want to see the one.

perfect - never really thought of doing that before. Have done it accidentally before with hit and miss results. This makes sense completely!! Nice! Will try when I get home

I have a similiar situation and was frustrated that you could not place a portal in the header or footer. I ended up putting two different portals in the body, one showing records from the database I am working in and a second one showing the detailed information from a second db.

A problem I ran into--- when I scroll to the bottom or middle of one of the portals and then try to scroll through the second portal, the first portal automatically scrolls back to the top?:

Interesting I thought, but annoying.

Have you come across any other solutions? confused.gif

Shannon, portals in the header/footer are not scrollable or editable in FM5/6.

You might consider having a list view of each file open side by side on the screen.

I also have a similar problem, and although i know it is not fixed, i was wondering if anyone had any alternate suggestions.

In the layout i have the records from the current table set in a list form. each record is only one line. I have a portal to show records from another table. I need to be able to copy records from the portal to a new record in the current table.

I have put the portal in a trailing grand summary, 4 portals showing 1-10, 11-20 etc. (this works, i just can't scroll.). but if more items get entered into the table from the portal, then eventually the last few records wont be able to be seen (no scrolling...)

any suggestion would be good
