Server 5.0 Layout/Field Changes Question.

Featured Replies

How can make changes to layout and fields, without deleting already created records when I upload the newlayout/field format.

I ask this question because I am having to make changes to the database layouts, etc, offline, then uploading the changes. Except while I am doing this, new records are being created. Even if I work with a updated copy, by the time I make the changes a couple of records may have already been made.

FMPServer 5.0 resides in its own machine on network.

I guess i can close the files and noone can use them? Until i open them back up. However, this makes have to make quick updates, rather than work offline and when I am done with the changes and happy with them, then upload them.

Suggestions?

This is often referred to as the grass growing under your feet.

You should be able to change layouts while the database is live. Other major changes like field definitions should be done after hours.

FMS 5.5 allows field changes while the file is still being hosted (but no other guests attached). Dunno about FMS 5.0.
