VL Color option?

I have a VL of several initial of workers in the office. Let's say they are: AA, BB, CC, DD, EE, etc.etc.

I'm wondering if there is a way to make the field be in a color pertaining to the person's choice of initials.

Example: if the users chooses AA for the initials, then the box with the initial would be light blue. If BB initials where chosen, then light green. And so on.

Is this something easily done or do I have to go back to the drawing board.
