GoAng Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 For some reason this has me stumped. I have three files A, B & C. File A are people who say things. File B is what they say. File C are issues based on what they say. So, I have File A related to File B by a unique number (1 person to many quotes). Each record in File B (quote) can have more than one entry in File C so I have those linked by a serial# field (1 quote to many issues). Is there any way to show one quoter, what they said and the issues for that quote on ONE layout?.....thanks....
-Queue- Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Off the top of my head, it seems that it would be easiest to do this in File B, showing the one related record's data from parent File A and using a portal to display File C's related records.
QuinTech Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Hi GoAng, and welcome to FM Forums! On a layout showing records from File A, use a portal showing records from File C. Are you using FMP5 for this post or FMP7? Your status indicates 7, but your use of the word "file" indicates (probably) 5. Because the answer is entirely different if you're using FMP 5. HTH, Jerry
QuinTech Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Because the answer is entirely different if you're using FMP 5. ...as you can see from -Queue-'s post, once again minutes ahead of mine.
RalphL Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 If you are using FMP 7 then the answer is yes. New Century Data has a sample file Presentation Separation Demo on their web site. http://www.newcenturydata.com/fm7.php They use two portals, selecting a portal row in the first selects the data to be shown in the second.
GoAng Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 Sorry for the confusion. We're using FM5 company-wide right now but I've started creating new databases in FP7 while I transition the FP5 files to FP7. Thanks for the help. Ang
