One password, 10 Files

Featured Replies

I'm quite sure this problem has arrisen many times before on the forums, but i cant seem to find anything when i search for it.

My problem is ive created a database of around 10 related files, all accessible through one main Menu File called "Menu.fp6" (Funnily enough!). I have create access privileges to this file and want similar (although sometimes different) privileges in the related files. How do i ensure that the password is copied across to the other files. I dont want the user to have to type in their password every time they enter each file, especially as opening any one file causes the related files to be opened and this would force the user to input their password upto 5 times in one go.

I dont have much experience with password setting. I do know i can make it automatically enter one password as each file opens which the average user wont know about, my problem here is that the administrator (Me) will have to hold down shift and enter his/my password everytime a file is opened.

I just know their's a simple solution to this, i just dont know what it is.

If each file contains the same passwords, then once one is entered it should 'trickle down' to the others it opens. Are you actually having a problem or just concerned that there might be one?

Just concerned that there might be one.

What happens if the user changes the password?

I tried this method, it works fine for the administrator password, but i set a <leave blank> password, and it askes for that one everytime, even though you dont have to enter it

You can set the <leave blank> password as the default one for a file in Edit -> Preferences -> Document. If you enter a password in another file and it opens this one, it will open with the same password, assuming there is a matching one. If there is no matching password or you don't enter one, then it will open with the default (in this case blank) password.

Im sure i tried that and it didnt copy the admin password, i'll try it again though.
