December 22, 200421 yr Newbies I am running FileMaker Server 7 with about 20 clients. I have had trouble running the filemaker's backup system. It has managed to crash/freeze during the backup, which resulted in corrupted database files. I was wondering if anyone else has had any issues with FileMaker's backups. Thanks for your time.
December 23, 200421 yr see http://www.macintouch.com/ 12/10/2004 "Readers warn of a very serious bug with FileMaker Server 7, in which large database backups (e.g. > 50MB) are irretrievably corrupted. The problem reportedly affects both Mac OS X and Windows environments, and the company is apparently working to resolve the problem"
January 5, 200521 yr Yea, how do you set the backup to a network drive rather than on the same drive. This is a bad practice....what if the drive crashes.....?
January 7, 200521 yr There has been much discussion on this issue on an email thread. Bottom line is that some users have discovered their backups were corrupted. Nothing is happening to live files. I have resorted to performing a backup on the server by closing served files, copying the files in finder, opening the files. Others have paused the files, copied in finder, unpaused the files. I would be suspect that these copies of hosted files may not be good though.
January 21, 200521 yr More Info ... http://www.macnn.com/news/27786 MacNN: FileMaker Server 7v3 update to resolve several issues Thursday, January 20, 2005 FileMaker today announced that it plans to release a v3 updater for both FileMaker Server 7 and Server 7 Advanced in early March 2005. FileMaker says that the v3 updater will fix the known stability issues with FileMaker Server, which a small number of customers have reported. "All known cases occurred with complex and/or large applications, under heavy load (>50 concurrent clients). FileMaker does not believe these stability issues will affect the majority of our customer base," according to a statement released by the company. The updater will also address connectivity, or "deafness" issues in FileMaker Server 7 Advanced as well as include improvements in configuration and administration for both products. The company says that customers who are experiencing any stability or connectivity problems should immediately contact their FileMaker Sales Rep, or FileMaker Technical Support for assistance. FileMaker says it will release additional information on availability of the v3 updaters in the next few weeks.
